Lamai Beach, Ko Samui

Mike says:

Wow, the food here in thailand is amazing.  kim and i recently found our new favorite restaurant about half a block from our accomodation.  the place is run by this absolute character peter, a thai, and his wife june.  we thought we had great thai food in Canada, until we stumbled upon this hole-in-the-wall from the recommendation from our guesthouse owner kerry.  peter is a real comic loving to take stabs at my manhood and teaching kim new thai words, that, by the way, are soon forgotten.

I love, in the touristy locations at least, how entrepreneurial the thais are.  there is a company, person, or child offering a service, product or ride on every corner.  probably some of the best fun is negotiating for goods here.  the rule of thumb that i have come up with is, offer a third of their intitial offer and never pay more than less that half of their initial offer to you.  one thing though, i will never negotiate for services like food and....massages.  kim and i  probably had one of the best experiences this trip. while chilling out on the beach, we recieved thai massages, and if you can believe it, for an hour, $10 CAD each!  wow thats about half the tip in Canada.  anyways we're off to ko pha ngan tomorrow to meet up with our newly aquainted friends.

i'll let kim chime in.......

Sawadee (Hello)

Yesterday morning a Songthaew (a truck with bench seats in the cab) picked us up and we began our overly touristy tour of all the notable sights on Ko Samui. We had planned to meet Robyn and Peter from SA on the truck, although they were on a separate Songathaew and we only ran into them occasionally on our stops. Our favourite part of the tour was going up in the mountains and riding elephants. What amazing creatures.

I am completely enjoying the "simple life" at White Sand Bungalows on Lamai Beach, Ko Samui. No air conditioning, although the ocean breeze comes through the cracks in our bamboo bungalow, cooling down the place even better than air-con. There is no hot water, although the heat of the day makes the water warmer than we even need. Every morning I wake up to the sound of the waves crashing on the shore and sunlight sneaking in through the cracks of the bungalow.

We had planned to leave today for Ko Pha Ngan, although felt like staying one more day at White Sands, this place is perfect. We enjoyed  a relaxing day on the beach; tanning, swimming and getting a thai massage. I could get used to this.

Hope you are all doing well back home. Sending you all lots of love and smiles from Thailand.

Will catch up with you when in Ko Pha Ngan.

Love,
Kim and Mike
