The entrance to Moonhut.
Our porch amongst the palms at Moonhut.
We met a wonderful couple at the Moonhut, Robyn and Peter, from Cape Town, South Africa. They had rented a jeep for the day and offered to take us for a ride. We headed off to Chaweng Beach on the Eastern side of the island. It was quite an experience driving on the roads, watching an entire Thai family on ONE scooter. Mom, Dad and Baby (drinking out of bottle) all without helmets. Can you imagine that at home? The baby would be taken away from the parents for good! This has been quite the culture shock for me. Chaweng Beach seems a bit more commercialized than Maenam Beach, although the sand is white and the water is light blue. We spent the afternoon here having lunch on the beach and shopping around. Mike thoroughly enjoyed negotiating with the vendors for better deals.
Today, we left the Moonhut and our new Cape Town friends and headed off to the Southern part of the island, Lamai Beach. I can see that this will become quite hard for me to always have to say good-bye to new friends. We arrived at a place called White Sand and have just checked in to a beautiful bamboo hut right on the beach. There is not air-conditioning but the ocean breeze is almost better!
Signing off for now, catch ya in a couple of days!
Cheers,
Kim and Mike
